Edible Garden Group

Planning is well under way for the 2017 gardening season. The deadline for box renewal for existing gardeners is past and we’re in the process of assigning any available boxes to new gardeners. Welcome to our new gardeners. If you are interested in obtaining a garden box, either this year or next, please let us know at: and we will either assign a box if one is available, or put your name on a waiting list for next year. In the meantime you can participate in our volunteer program which operates to help with perimeter maintenance and share in the perimeter produce, and gives you the opportunity to meet some of our gardeners on a social level.

2017 Speaker Series

The Growing Connection

Hosted by the Edible Garden Group and the Botanical Gardens of Silver Springs

Join us for our new speaker series with Janet Melrose, Calgary’s Cottage Gardener.  We have planned a series of 4 sessions which will inform gardeners just getting started, assist those who wish to expand their knowledge and provide for a more in-depth knowledge for more seasoned gardeners.

Cost: $15 payable at the door – (no need to pre-register)

Location: Silver Springs Community Hall

Time:  7:30 pm

The first session is Wednesday April 26th “Plan Now for Great Growing”.  This session will deal with garden soil, best crops for Calgary, direct seeding techniques, seedlings (buying and hardening off) and much more.

May 17 – “Full On Growing”

June 21 – “Setting the Summer Stage”

September 27 – “Putting the Garden to Bed”

These topics will cover everything you need to know to “get growing.”

Therapeutic Gardening

Therapeutic Gardening, the speaker session presented on February 15 by Janet Melrose attracted an enthusiastic group of gardeners.  Therapeutic Gardening uses the art and science of gardening together with our innate connections to enhance life.  It addresses 5 realms: physical, psychological, spiritual, social and intellectual.  To plant a seed is to believe.

EGG AGM – Thursday April 20 – Mark this date on your calendar.  Please plan to attend as decisions will be made regarding the operation of the edible garden this year.  There will be an opportunity to sign up for weekly garden maintenance so be sure to bring your calendar.  Some executive positions will also be available for interested parties.
